Team India completed an easy series win over Afghanistan after their nine-wicket win in the final ODI on Saturday. Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 110 not out while former India skipper Rohit Sharma registered his 62nd fifty in the ODI format. The 39-year-old scored 79 runs and ended the series with 143 runs with an average just under 48.

Mohit Sharma, the former India and Chennai Super Kings star, has urged the questions around Rohit’s form and fitness to be stopped. It was seen that the veteran batter fielded the entire fifty overs in the sapping heat in Chennai and also showed great urgency during running between the wickets.

In his chat with Cricbuzz at the end of the IND vs AFG game, Mohit said about his former teammate, “Everything is on track with Rohit as far as the 2027 ODI World Cup is concerned. His running between the wickets with Jaiswal was the biggest positive for me”

The 37-year-old also added, “Earlier players used to get tired after scoring 50 in such heat. He (Rohit Sharma) showed great intent while attempting the extra run with his running between the wickets. Considering his overall stats for India, one has to stop questioning his place in the side.”

Cheteshwar Pujara makes a massive statement on Rohit’s knock vs AFG

Yet another former India batter and teammate of the Mumbai Indians star, Cheteshwar Pujara, heaped huge praise on the batter. The 38-year-old felt the knock on Saturday would give some relief to the batter, who didn’t have a great start to 2026 in the fifty-over format.

Pujara, while speaking to JioStar during the third ODI, said, “Batters need to score runs no matter how big they are. There was a visible rhythm to Rohit’s batting today, and he needed to score these runs. If a player is not scoring runs, there is pressure on him despite the team management’s backing.”

India’s former Test batter also opined, “He would be relieved to be back in form. Wickes in England will suit his style of batting, and this innings will come in handy. Rohit also fielded well, taking three catches. It was a great day, and now we are going to England with a relaxed frame of mind.”
