The Indian women’s hockey team has created history on Sunday in Auckland. In a very exciting and high-voltage final match, Team India defeated host New Zealand 2-0. FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup 2025–26 Has won the glittering title of. With this spectacular title win, the Indian women’s hockey team has made a strong comeback by securing its place in the prestigious ‘FIH Hockey Women’s Pro League’ for the next season.

Indian players adopted an aggressive stance from the very beginning of the match. In the fourth minute of the game, Navneet Kaur (4′) converted the penalty corner into a goal with a powerful hit, giving India an early lead of 1-0. After this, New Zealand tried hard to make a comeback, but they had no success against the Indian defence. India got their fifth penalty corner in the last minute of the first quarter, which Sunita Toppo (15′) deflected a sharp shot from Deepika into the goal post and increased India’s lead to 2-0.

Team India became champion without losing any match

At half-time and the subsequent game, the New Zealand team made several dangerous moves while maintaining ball possession and were also awarded a penalty corner in the fourth quarter. However, the alertness of Indian captain and goalkeeper Savita Punia ruined every plan of the host team. Lalremsiami, who played brilliantly in the final, was chosen ‘Player of the Match’, while star player Deepika (6 goals) was the joint top scorer of the tournament.

This is India’s second Nations Cup title; Earlier, India had won the first edition of this tournament in the year 2022. The special thing is that the Indian team remained invincible (without losing) in the entire tournament. They defeated USA (3–2), Japan (2–1), and Uruguay (3–2) in Pool A matches, then recorded a 6–0 victory over Chile in the semi-finals. Overjoyed by this unprecedented success, Hockey India has announced a cash prize of Rs 3 lakh each to each player of the team and Rs 1.5 lakh to each member of the support staff.
