The Tri-series match between India A and Sri Lanka A ended in absolute chaos. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi got into a shoving match with a Lankan player just after losing the game in the super over. The home team players constantly sledged Sooryavanshi and finally lost their cool, which ended up in the ugly scenes that were witnessed in Dambulla.
Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin called it ‘Great Theatre’ as he took to his X-handle and wrote, “These games won’t have as many cameras as we are used to seeing in the IPL. The no-ball call in the super over was debatable, and the way Sri Lanka delayed coming into bat in the super over really irked the India A side. The frustration shown by the Indian team was understandable, while what Sri Lanka did was play proper mind games.”
The game ended in a tie with both teams scoring 265; it was Indian skipper Tilak Varma who insisted on a super over finish. Once the one-over playoffs began, Lanka scored 16 runs from six balls. The visiting side could only score 9 runs, with Sooryavanshi and Suryansh Shedge falling short. The match ended in complete chaos as there were also issues with the light, with the ball being barely spotted.
After the match ended in a tie, Tilak was seen having a stern word with the umpire and trying to convince him of the super over. That’s when the Rajasthan Royals batter came and gently asked his skipper to move away. Varma wasn’t happy with just taking a single point home.
Speaking at the end of the game, India A skipper said, “Games have been pretty close, and we lost in the super over. The bowling was good, and Arshad bowled well in the death overs.”
