Delhi:The start of the ODI series between India and Afghanistan has been a bit disappointing, as the start of the first match to be held in Dharamshala has been delayed due to rain. The Meteorological Department had already warned that there may be continuous rain on the match day.
It is quite late for the toss, but the rain is showing no signs of stopping. For this reason, there is a continuous delay in the start of this first match of the series. Till now, many overs of the match have been lost, which means that now the hope of having a full 50-50 overs match between the two teams is completely gone.
However, from time to time the rain is slowing down a bit and turning into drizzle, due to which there is still hope that the match can be conducted by reducing the overs. But for this at all costs The game must start by 6:32 pmSo that a match of at least 20-20 overs can be conducted, which is very important for the result of the match in ODI.
In any case, there seems to be very little hope that the rain will stop before the cut-off time (6:32 pm) and the field will be made ready for the game.
Before this ODI series, a single Test match was played between India and Afghanistan in Mullanpur, which was won by host India by a huge margin of an innings and 300 runs. This was India’s biggest victory in the Test format. After today’s first ODI, both the teams will head to Lucknow and Chennai for the second and third matches of the series, which will be played on June 17 and 20 respectively.
Very few ODI matches have been played between India and Afghanistan. This is the first time that an ODI series is taking place between the two teams. Before this three-match series, both the Asian teams have come face to face only 4 times in the ODI format.
The first clash between India and Afghanistan took place in Mirpur in 2014, when India defeated Afghanistan by 8 wickets in the Asia Cup match. The match played between the two teams in the Asia Cup in 2018 did not yield any result.
After these two matches of the Asia Cup, India and Afghanistan faced each other in the 2019 and 2023 ODI World Cups. In the 2019 World Cup, the ‘Men in Blue’ had registered a close win by 11 runs, while in the 2023 World Cup match, India defeated Afghanistan by 8 wickets.
