Rahul Dravid’s son Anvay is set to play for the India U-19 team in the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka next month. The wicket-keeper batter has been selected for three white-ball fixtures. The Sharath Sridharan-led selection panel announced the white-ball and red-ball squads for the bilateral games. The two teams will compete in three fifty-over contests and two multi-day fixtures.
The 17-year-old Anvay has been consistent in domestic cricket, and he will feature in the 15-member white-ball team as one of the two wicket-keepers alongside Rajat Baghel. Madhya Pradesh’s Yashbardhan Singh Chauhan is the skipper, while Lakshya Raichandani has been named vice-captain.
The selection of a younger Dravid is big news for the legendary batter. His elder son Samit, had previously represented Karnataka in under-19 cricket. Anvay is the first of the two brothers to get a national call-up.
The teenager recently grabbed headlines during the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, where the Karnataka Under-19 team made it to the quarter-finals under his captaincy.
He amassed 220 runs across six innings, the highest score of an unbeaten 82 coming against Himachal Pradesh during a run chase. He also scored a century in the Under-16 Vijay Merchant Trophy. The upcoming tour will help the young Indian players to prepare for the future. Anvay is also eligible for the global tournament, making the exposure in the sub-continent conditions crucial for him.
The Indian team will leave for Sri Lanka in the last week of June. The multi-day red-ball games for which a different squad has been named will follow after the conclusion of the one-day games.
