Batting first, Bangladesh scored 153 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs in the match played at Houston. In reply, USA reached the target losing 5 wickets in 19.3 overs.

The win was historic for the US as it was the first ever T20 International between the two teams. USA created history with their first win over Bangladesh.

The series is important for both teams as they prepare ahead of the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. USA has won the first match and has taken a 1-0 lead in the 3-match T20 international series. The second match of the series between the two teams will be played in Houston on Thursday (May 23).

Strong performance by USA

Chasing the target of 154 runs, USA got off to a strong start with Steven Taylor (28) and captain Monank Patel (12). Monanque was unlucky and returned to the pavilion after being run out. Taylor then shared a 38-run partnership with Andries Goss (23) for the second wicket. Rishad Hussain broke the partnership by catching Gous to Mustafizur Rahman.

From here, Bangladesh made a strong comeback and lost 2 wickets in the next 13 runs. Mustafizur Rahman first caught Steven Taylor by Mahmudullah. Rahman then had Aaron Jones (4) caught by Najmul Hussain. Nitish Kumar (10) also couldn't hold on at the crease and returned to the pavilion falling victim to Shariful Islam.

A match winning partnership

Corey Anderson and Harmeet Singh took over from here. Both the batsmen gave no chance to the Bangladeshi bowlers and passed the target with 3 balls to spare in the last over. Corey Anderson scored an unbeaten 34 off 25 balls with the help of 2 sixes. Harmeet Singh scored an unbeaten 33 off 13 balls with the help of 2 fours and 3 sixes. Mustafizur Rahman took two wickets for Bangladesh. Shariful Islam and Rishad Hussain got one wicket each.

A flop performance by the batsmen

Earlier, Liton Das (14) and Soumya Sarkar (20) got off to a strong start for Bangladesh, who came to bat first in the match. But both the openers returned to the pavilion on 34 runs. Jasdeep Singh dismisses Das lbw. Steven Taylor caught Sarkar by Kumarkarvi. Taylor gave Bangladesh their third blow by fielding skipper Najmul Hussain Shanto (3).

Tauhid Hadaya scored a half century

Bangladesh's middle-order batsman Tauheed Hade (58) completed his half-century with one end. But at the other end, the experienced Shakib Al Hasan did not perform well. Shakib returned to the pavilion after being run out for 6 runs. Mahmudullah (31) supported Hadiya and the two shared a 67-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

Appreciation of American bowlers

Saurabh Netrawalkar gave Bangladesh their fifth shock by getting Mahmudullah caught by Kumarkar. Tawheed was the last batsman out, caught by Taylor off the bowling of Ali Khan. Tauheed scored 58 runs off 47 balls with the help of 4 fours and 2 sixes.

Steven Taylor took the highest two wickets for USA. Saurabh Netrawalkar, Ali Khan and Jasdeep Singh got 1 wicket each. The American bowlers were praised for restricting Bangladesh to a low score.
