Manav Suthar, who was named the Player of the Match in the IND vs AFG one-off Test, has signed a contract with Warwickshire for the next two rounds of the County Championship.

The 23-year-old left-arm spinner, who took 7 wickets in his debut Test, is likely to play against Yorkshire and Somerset.

Suthar has been among the wickets in the last few years, with 129 scalps in 29 first-class matches.

Warwickshire stated that the Indian spinner will add a new dimension to their bowling as they are looking to win the County Championship title.

Suthar is looking forward to his stint and is hoping to contribute to their ambition of winning the title.

Manav Suthar was the best bowler in the recently concluded Test against the visiting Afghan side, and his variations troubled the rival batters. He was a better bowler than Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav and bagged six wickets in Afghanistan’s first innings.

Suthar bowled well in the second innings as India dismissed Afghanistan for 112 runs on the third day of the Test match, securing a win by an innings and 300 runs.

The national selectors and the team management backed Suthar. He is expected to represent India in the next Test series against Sri Lanka later this year.

Earlier, India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir had said that the national team would take four spinners to Sri Lanka, and the red-ball game against Afghanistan was the best chance to find out the bowling combination for the future assignments.

The pitches in Sri Lanka would aid the slow bowlers, and the team with better spinners is likely to come on top.

With the Indian team behind in the World Test Championship, the two Tests in an away series are important for the Shubman Gill-led unit to move up in the points table.
