Claim: Stokes may retire after nightclub incident; The ECB has launched an investigation into the matter.

ECB is investigating protocol violations after the end of the first test match against New Zealand

London. England Test captain Ben Stokes is likely to announce his resignation from his post and retirement from international cricket after his involvement in an incident in a nightclub.

The incident happened late on Sunday night, when England had registered a spectacular victory by defeating New Zealand by 115 runs in the first Test match played at Lord’s Stadium.

According to a report in ‘Talksport’, Stokes may leave the captaincy as well as say goodbye to cricket. The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has started an investigation into the incident. A rugby player is also said to be involved in this matter.

The ECB said it was investigating a breach of team protocol following the end of the first Test against New Zealand.

Stokes and Atkinson were present at the nightclub where the incident took place in the early hours of Monday.

The ECB said, we are currently gathering additional information to the case. The team for the second Test will be announced in due course. Information about the matter has also been given to the ‘Cricket Regulator’ and further information will be shared once any update is received.

Former England fast bowler Steve Harmison, however, defended Stokes and told ‘talkSport’ that a decision should be taken only when all the facts of the case are known.

Stokes is a great player. He is an honest person and will know himself whether he has crossed the limits or not.

He said, I am completely with him. When the facts come out, he will do what is right in the situation. I don’t have any problem with it. I’ve known Ben since he was 15 years old.

Harmison appealed to the team management to maintain the morale of the players and said, my biggest concern at this time is that Gus Atkinson and Stokes get full support and protection. It is the responsibility of the team to take care of their mental health also.
