Venkatesh Iyer schooled Irfan Pathan with a smile after Qualifier 1 between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The southpaw struck a well-compiled fifty to help the side win the contest by eight wickets and qualify for the final.
After below-par performances in the starting phase, Iyer returned to form and scored crucial runs for the side. He stitched a match winning partnership with captain Shreyas Iyer, who accumulated a 50-plus score.
KKR bowled out Hyderabad for 159 and clinched the victory thanks to terrific bowling and batting by the players.
Iyer spoke to Pathan, Ambati Rayudu, and Jatin Sapru after the contest. Iyer talked about Mitchell Starc’s three wickets, his batting, Shreyas Iyer’s contribution, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s short and small innings. Still, Irfan was not satisfied and wanted to hear more from the match-winner.
Iyer realized the intention and poked fun at the veteran all-rounder. “It seems you want to hear something else,” he said on Irfan’s face. Pathan was caught off guard and soon tried to make up for his mistake, but it was too late by then.
Iyer finally said what Irfan was forcing him to utter. Venkatesh lauded Gautam Gambhir for his contribution to the team’s impressive journey in the 17th season.
