Redemption fills the air just as much as chance does in the Indian Premier League. With each passing year comes new tales unfolding on the field, yet nothing grabs attention like athletes rebuilding form following tough seasons behind them.

Some big names found the going tough during IPL 2025. Hampered by injuries, shaky performances, unclear roles, or simply too much rivalry, plenty failed to meet expectations. Yet everything reset with IPL 2026. Right on the heels of the T20 World Cup, it turned into just the chance needed to quiet doubters and fire up once more.

Here are five players who struggled in IPL 2025 but produced remarkable turnarounds in IPL 2026:

1. Rashid Khan

A different pace marked the last two IPL campaigns for someone of Rashid Khan’s level.

Injuries plus a heavy schedule dulled the Afghan spinner’s rhythm through IPL 2024 and 2025; he grabbed just 19 wickets total. Doubts crept in: could even the top T20 wrist-spinner be slipping?

Back at his peak, Rashid grabbed 21 wickets, topping all spinners in the tournament. Gujarat Titans made it to the final, lifted by his sharp spells on the field.

People remembered fast just how dangerous he can be when things click. He stood tall once more among cricket’s most threatening bowlers.

2.Rasikh Salaam

Few returns surprised people more than that of Rasikh Salam. A hefty price tag brought the youngster into the squad before IPL 2025, yet he watched games unfold from the bench, playing just twice. Though others assumed his story would repeat in 2026, RCB’s early choices pointed elsewhere when selecting bowlers.
Fate showed up late, yet Salam didn’t let go once it knocked.

A strong start with four wickets quickly changed his fortunes, making him key to RCB’s pace lineup. Wound up the competition with 19 wickets, topping a few seasoned teammates along the way.
A sharp burst in the closing game sealed victory, quietly confirming his rise among the standout names this year.

3. Jamie Overton

That first go-around in the IPL, Jamie Overton didn’t leave a mark. Not even close.

Out of form, the English all-rounder couldn’t claim a single wicket in IPL 2025. Soon after, he vanished from the playing eleven. With time running short, questions grew louder about whether the Chennai Super Kings would keep him around.

Jamie Overton piled on crucial runs, turning into CSK’s main punch in the mid and late stages of the innings. Because he could crank up speed and pull out sharp bounce, batters never settled when facing him.

Only after he left the field did anyone truly notice what he brought. His absence hit harder once the team started falling apart. What looked steady at first unraveled fast without him around.

4. Dhruv Jurel

Jurel stepped into the 2025 IPL season under a heavy weight, Rajasthan Royals having held onto him at a steep cost.

While big numbers followed his name, so did quiet questions about what he’d actually deliver when the lights came on.

Though moments stood out, hitting lower in the lineup kept him quiet too long. 333 runs isn’t poor, yet somehow left people wanting more. That season rewrote the rules overnight. IPL 2026 flipped everything on its head.

Now playing at three, thanks to shifting spots in Rajasthan’s order, Jurel found himself where he fits best. That change set everything loose.

A score of 500 runs came through for him now, marking a personal best in the IPL journey so far, six times reaching fifty without going further. What stood out was how steadily he showed up near the start of the innings, game after game.

5. Rajat Patidar

Rajat Patidar stepped into IPL 2026 fresh off lifting a trophy as skipper, yet still chasing his own breakthrough with the bat.

Even after guiding Royal Challengers Bengaluru to their first title in IPL 2025, Rajat Patidar didn’t light up the scoreboard himself. Trouble with his finger, along with shaky timing at the crease, kept his total down to just 312 runs.

Rajat Patidar started tearing bowlers apart game after game. His numbers jumped high, average climbing fast, strike rate rocketing past usual benchmarks. Hitting 500 runs felt almost routine as he kept overpowering defenses week after week. Few saw it coming; now everyone watches closely.

If national selectors look elsewhere, Rajat Patidar might find his way back into India’s T20 squad through recent showings. While form often opens doors, consistent output has kept him in the conversation. Since selectors tend to rotate, strong outings may just tip the balance. When gaps appear in the lineup, someone like Patidar stands ready. Although nothing is guaranteed, timing can make all the difference.
