The Gujarat Titans (GT) are set to face the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Qualifier 2 of the Indian Premier League(IPL) 2026 at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh. This is a high-stakes clash, as the winner will find a place in the summit clash of 2026 at Ahmedabad against the awaiting Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

While weather is not expected to play spoilsport to the clash, there always exists the possibility of rain playing a significant role due to the advent of the monsoons in the country. With this being such a high-stakes encounter, fans will be expecting that weather conditions do not significantly impact the game. The venue has seen five games in IPL 2026, four league games and one playoff game, with rain not having a significant impact in any of the fixtures.

Weather forecast in New Chandigarh

According to weather forecasts from AccuWeather, there is just a mere 1% chance of precipitation at the venue on May 29. Cloudy conditions are expected from 1:00 PM IST till 9:00 PM IST. There is also an orange alert for hailstorms lasting till 1:30 PM IST, carrying over from the previous afternoon. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM IST, with the toss set to take place at 7:00 PM IST.

Despite the significantly clear evening forecast, changes in weather conditions cannot be ruled out due to forecasts of a thunderstorm the following morning. Possibilities of a delayed start or mid-match delays are minimal, but players and team management will need to stay prepared for any interruptions.

What if the match gets washed out?

There is no reserve day for the Qualifier 2 clash between GT and RR. IPL playing rules state that if the playoff match gets washed out, the match officials could opt for a standalone Super Over to determine the match result, provided the weather permits for it.

If not, the team that finished higher on the points table would progress to the final. The Titans finished their season in second place, with 18 points and a net run rate of 0.695. The Royals finished in fourth place with 16 points and a net run rate of 0.189. Therefore, if Qualifier 2 is completely washed out, the Gujarat Titans will progress to the final on May 31 in Ahmedabad against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
