Latest News :- The Candidates Chess Series was held in Toronto, Canada to select a player to play against the World Champion. In this 14-round series, Indian Grandmaster D. Gukesh faced American Hikaru Nakamura in his last round. Playing with the black pieces, Gukesh ended the game in a draw on the 71st move. With this, Gukesh remained on top with 9 points. However, there was a situation where winning his title would depend on the outcome of the match between Russia's Ian Nepomniachtchi and America's Fabiano Caruna.

Because if any of them wins, he can share the top spot with Gukesh with 9 points. If such a situation arises then who will be the winner? A tiebreaker game will be played to decide. In this way the match between Nepomniachtchi and Fabiano Caruna created a sensation. After Gugesh's game ended, the game between Nepomniachtchi and Fabiano Caruna continued for the next 15 minutes. Many times Fabiano Caruna was in a winning position.

But Nepomniachtchi retained his position due to a mistake on the 39th pawn move. After this Fabiano Caruna again improved his game and came closer to victory. But by then time had passed. In the end the match was a draw. In the end, 17 year old D. Gukesh won the title by scoring 9 points. Gukesh, who won the title of champion in the Candidates Series, was given a prize money of about Rs 78.50 lakh. With this, Gukesh also got the honor of becoming the second Indian player to win the Candidates Series title. Earlier, 5-time world champion Vishwanathan Anand had won in 2014.

And 40 years later, 17-year-old Gukesh also became the youngest player to qualify for the World Championship title. In 1984, Russia's Garry Kasparov played the World Championship at the age of 22. After winning the Candidates Chess Series, Gukesh will face China's Ding Liren in a match to win the World Championship title later this year. The date and venue of this tournament has not been decided yet.

Goal of defeat in 7th round: After winning the Candidates Series title, D. Gukesh said, “I was feeling good from the beginning because I played well, but after losing in the 7th round against Alireza, I was very disappointed. That failure was tragic. But the next day was of rest. This helped me overcome it. And that failure gave me energy and inspiration. I felt that if you do the right thing after failure, if you have the right mentality, you can win.

I believed in the process from the beginning of the match, focused on being in the right mental state and playing the right game. I was able to do this well throughout the series. I consider myself lucky that the outcome of the game was the way I wanted it to be. It felt beautiful to win the Candidates Series as a young challenger and compete for a World Championship title. I am very happy.

The match between Ian Nepomniachtchi of Russia and Fabiano Caruna of America ended in a draw. Whoever won it would share the top spot with me. After this, a tiebreaker will be played to decide the winner of the series. So I was ready for the tiebreaker game. I was discussing this with my instructor. But as soon as we started discussing it we realized that this was not necessary.

I don't have much time to think about the World Championship final. However, I am looking forward to the efforts we make for that competition. Vishwanathan Anand congratulated me. I haven't had a chance to talk to him yet, but I hope to contact him soon. Spoke to my parents and they are very happy. Had a great time with my coach, sponsor and some friends. Many compliments came in short messages.

I look forward to answering them and talking to my friends. I am going to rest for a few days now, the competition has been quite stressful for the last three weeks. After the break I will think about the World Championships and plan how to take things forward. The general plan is to focus on playing the best games. And try to perform your best. Gukesh said.

Sacrifice of parents: It is also important to remember the sacrifice made by Gukesh's parents in helping him reach heights in the chess world. Gukesh's father Rajnikanth is an ear, nose and throat specialist and mother Padma is a microbiologist. In the year 2017-18, Gukesh was on the verge of reaching the finals of Grand Master Norm and had to participate in chess tournaments held in different parts of the world.

Due to this, Rajinikanth stopped his work and started traveling with his son. As a result, his mother Padma had to look after the household expenses. There was such a situation that they could not meet in person for several days. As a result of his sacrifice, Gukesh became the Grand Master in January 2019. Then his age was 12 years and 17 days.

Through this he also got the distinction of being the youngest Grand Master of India. And Gukesh's parents had to spend the entire amount they had saved for the trip. When additional funds were needed, assistance was also available through the Vishwanathan Anand Academy. After this, Gukesh's journey gained momentum. He has now emerged as a young challenger playing in the World Championship.

Prime Minister's appreciation: In an ex-site post issued by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “India is proud of T. Gukesh, who has set the record for the youngest winner of the Candidates Chess Series. Gukesh's achievements reflect his extraordinary talent and dedication. His outstanding performance and journey to success inspires millions of people.”

Second place to Vaishali: China's Zongshi Tan won the Women Candidates title with 9 points. Indian Grand Masters Koneru Humpy, R. Vaishali and China's Dingze Lei jointly stood second with 7.5 points. Koneru Humpy defeated Dingze Lei of China in the final round. Vaishali also defeated Katrina Lucknow of Russia.

In the Candidates series, Hikaru Nakamura of the United States, Nepomniachtchi of Russia and Fabiano Caruna of the United States tied for second to fourth with 8.5 points. India's R. Praggnananda stood at 5th position with 7 points. He defeated Nijad Abbasov of Azerbaijan in his last round.

Vidit Gujrati, another Indian Grandmaster, finished the series with 6 points and 6th place. Vidit Gujarati played her last round match in a draw against Firozza Alireza of France. Firozha Alireza stood 7th with 5 points and Nijat Abbasov stood last with 3.5 points.
