UP Sports College Admission 2026: Big steps are being taken continuously under the leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to promote sports in Uttar Pradesh. The impact of the state government's sports-oriented policies and modern facilities is now clearly visible.
A record number of applications have been received for admission in sports colleges of the state in the session 2026-27. This time around 2600 students have applied for a total of 518 seats in five sports colleges of the state. This is considered to be the largest figure till date. It is clear from this that the youth of the state have now started seeing sports not only as entertainment but also as a better career.
Online applications were invited for admission in classes 6, 9 and 11 in sports colleges located in Lucknow, Gorakhpur, Saifai, Saharanpur and Fatehpur of the state.
This year around 2600 applications were received, whereas last year the number was around 1800. This huge increase in applications has strengthened the confidence of the youth towards government sports institutions.This time the selection process has been made completely transparent and merit based. The preliminary selection examination was kept for 100 marks. In this, 50 marks were allotted for physical test and 50 marks for skill and game test. It has been made mandatory to obtain minimum 40 percent marks in both the examinations.
Candidates successful in the preliminary examination will be included in the main selection examination. Last year, 264 players had participated in Lucknow and Kanpur division, whereas this time 393 players had participated.
The main selection examination will be held on June 3-4 and June 5-6. In this, physical ability and sports skills of the players will be tested in detail.Biological age test of successful candidates in the main examination will be done. This process will be completed with the consent of the parents. After this, seat allotment will be done through certificate verification and counselling. Principal of Sports College Lucknow, Deependra Yadav said that the entire selection process is being conducted in a fair and transparent manner.
He said that a target has been set to increase the number of applications by 3 to 4 times in the next session.
