Central Railway Food Price Hike: The pockets of passengers traveling at Central Railway stations are now going to become looser. The Railway Administration has approved the revision of prices of popular snacks available at small static catering stalls located at stations.

“Why were the new rates implemented?” What is the argument of Railways?

According to the Railway Administration, this decision has been taken with the aim of making the catering system more organized, improving quality and prohibiting overcharging.

New menu, new prices - what made it expensive?

As per the new rates applicable from June 1:

• Aloo Vada (50 grams)-₹15
• One Pav (with Vada) -₹5
• Veg Samosa / Veg Puff / Sabudana Vada - ₹20 each
• Veg Pizza-₹50
• Pav Bhaji -₹50

These changes will be especially applicable to those stations where fast food is sold through small static stalls.

Changes in South Indian food also - Kin limited

• Masala Dosa-₹35
• Idli (2 pieces, with sambar and chutney)-₹30

However, there has been no change in the prices of some popular items:

• Misal Pav-₹35 (Fixed)
• Kachori-₹15 (fixed)
• Dabeli-₹20 (Fixed)

Monitoring and strictness – will pressure on vendors increase?

Railway administration has given clear instructions that:

• It will be mandatory to post bilingual rate list at all stalls.
• Regular inspections will be conducted to prevent overcharging of passengers
• It will be the responsibility of the vendors to ensure the quality of food.

Will signal facilities or expenses increase for passengers?

Although the Railways claims that this step is for transparency and quality improvement, there is a concern among the passengers that small expenses in everyday travel can now add up to become a big burden.
