A disciple blindly trusts a coach, a guru. It is the Guru whose teachings transform an ordinary child into a medal-winning athlete for the country, but in Indian Archery, a Guru did something very shameful to his disciple and now that Guru has been sent to jail. We are talking about Kuldeep Vedwan, who has been sentenced to five years in jail by the special court of Sonipat. A fine of Rs 15 thousand has also been imposed on him. Kuldeep Vedwan has been found guilty of physically exploiting a minor athlete.
Kuldeep Vedwan has been found guilty under the POCSO Act. This matter came to light during the trials of the Youth Championship which were held at the Sports Authority of India Center in Sonipat. An archer from Jammu and Kashmir also participated in these trials held in the year 2023, who used to train at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board Katra Stadium. This athlete accused Kuldeep Vedwan of entering his room at 4 in the morning and misbehaving with him. The athlete resisted them for 15-20 minutes and had to take help from other female players.
The female athlete accused Kuldeep Vedwan that the coach apologized to her and asked her not to tell anyone about this incident as it could end her career. The female athlete alleged that Kuldeep Vedwan even told her in the hotel that he would make her a big player if she obeyed him.
The female athlete told this to her family and they complained about it to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. A committee was set up there to investigate and they advised the family to lodge a complaint with Sonipat police. Police registered this case under POCSO.
The women police investigated this matter and now the guilty coach has also been punished.
