Delhi: Former Indian team's veteran opener Gautam Gambhir is working as a mentor for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. After Gautam's return to KKR, there has been a big change in the team's performance this season. KKR has made it to the playoffs and their Qualifier 1 match will be against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Gambhir is often in the news for his statements. He has once again given a big statement regarding the selectors of Team India.

The former opener said in a YouTube show with Team India's legendary off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, “When I tried for my first under-14 tournament, I was not selected because I did not touch the feet of the selectors. I must have been 13 or 14 years old at that time. I then promised myself that I would never touch the feet of the selectors. Even today I don't allow players to touch my feet.”

42-year-old Gambhir further said, “When I failed in the early days of my career, people used to tell me that I come from a good family, so why do I need to play cricket and I should take care of my father's business. This was people's perception about me, but it was important for me to play cricket for India.”

Gambhir has given two IPL titles to KKR

Along with the Indian team, Gautam Gambhir also performed brilliantly for KKR. He made KKR champion for the first time under his leadership. Kolkata first won the IPL title in 2012 under the captaincy of Gautam Gambhir. Apart from this, KKR became champion for the second time in 2014. At the same time, his team is once again considered a strong contender for the title.

Now it remains to be seen whether Gambhir will be able to make the Knight Riders team champion again under his guidance or not.
