Jaipur: Former great captain of the Indian cricket team and legendary leg spinner Anil Kumble has praised Rajasthan Royals (RR) young batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Kumble has made a big prediction considering Vaibhav’s explosive power-hitting and mental maturity. He said that this 15-year-old young player can very soon break Chris Gayle’s historical record of hitting most sixes in a season of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Anil Kumble was greatly impressed by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s fearless style during Rajasthan Royals’ run chase in the match played against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.

During a conversation on Star Sports, Kumble said, “Very few batsmen can hit sixes over the covers with such ease, but Vaibhav did it many times against Digvesh Rathi. This kid is very special. The biggest thing is his mindset, he looks more mature than his age.”

Match winning innings of 93 runs in 38 balls

Talking about the match, batting first, Lucknow Super Giants had scored a huge score of 220/5 on the basis of explosive innings of Josh Inglis (60 runs) and Mitchell Marsh (96 runs).

Vaibhav Suryavanshi became Kaal for Rajasthan Royals who were chasing this mountain-like target of 221 runs. He played an explosive inning of 93 runs hitting 10 sixes and 7 fours in just 38 balls. Dhruv Jurel also made a quick contribution of 53 runs, due to which the Royals achieved the target in just 19.1 overs and registered a resounding victory by 7 wickets. With this victory, Rajasthan has reached fourth place in the points table with 14 points.

Vaibhav came very close to Chris Gayle’s record

With this explosive innings, Vaibhav Suryavanshi has become the first Indian batsman to hit 50 sixes in an IPL season. He now has a total of 53 sixes in his name in IPL 2026.

Currently, ‘Universe Boss’ Chris Gayle (59 sixes in 2012) is at the top in the list of hitting most sixes in an IPL season. After this, Vaibhav Suryavanshi (53 sixes) has come at the second position. Andre Russell (52 sixes) and Abhishek Sharma (42 sixes) are also included in this list. Kumble has expressed hope that Rajasthan Royals still have one league match and playoff matches left, in such a situation Vaibhav will very soon create history by breaking Gayle’s record of 59 sixes.
