MS Dhoni on Tuesday (March 6) arrived in Chennai for Chennai Super Kings' preparatory camp ahead of IPL 2024, and the defending champions gave the Yellow Brigade a gift by announcing their skipper's arrival via a video with Thalapathy Vijay-starrer Leo edit.
With 17 days left for the IPL, Dhoni linked up with the CSK team after guiding them to their fifth IPL title last season following their 5-wicket victory against Gujarat Titans in the final.
Dhoni had dropped a hint at a "new role" while expressing his excitement and wrote on Facebook, "Can't wait for the new season and the new 'role'. Stay tuned." CSK also joined in on the 'new role' trend with a post of their own featuring Leo the CSK mascot. Now, on their skipper's arrival, CSK and their fans, who fondly call him Thala, have been treated with an edit from the Chennai Super Kings on their social media channels. Here is the The video is inspired from the movie Leo, which became the 16th highest-grossing Indian film of all time following it's release in 2023 October. One fan on X informed how the video gave goosebumps. This doesn't confirm anything about Dhoni's "new role" as that very much looks like something connected to a broadcaster promo of Star Sports, who also posted on the CSK skipper's arrival in Chennai. "The helicopter has landed in Chennai, New Role loading. Countdown to March 22 starts now... stay tuned to Star Sports for more," Star Sports India posted on X with a video. Dhoni sports a nostalgic look of his early days when he announced his arrival to world cricket with long coloured hair. He had that hair-style until he lifted the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007. Chennai Super Kings will begin their title defence at home against Royal Challengers Bangalore on March 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. So, players have already started arriving for the preparatory camp from Monday (March 5). CSK's preparatory camp began on March 2, with the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rajvardhan Hangargekar, Mukesh Choudhary and Prashant Solanki joining the camp at Chepauk. Many others will join the camp once they finish their international and T20 league commitments.
