Whenever there is talk of the fittest players in Indian cricket, the first name that comes up is Virat Kohli. Team India's star batsman and former captain Kohli started such a revolution in the country regarding fitness, seeing which other players of the team and now new players coming to the team also take fitness seriously. But Kohli believes that there are players more fit than him in the other team India and this is the Indian hockey team.
Along with his batting in the IPL 2026 season, Virat Kohli has also impressed everyone with his fitness.
Even at the age of 37, whether he is taking quick singles and doubles while batting or stopping runs while fielding with agility at the boundary, Kohli has not let age dominate him. In this way, he is still impressing the youth with his fitness. But Kohli believes that his fitness is nothing compared to the players of the Indian men's hockey team. When Kohli was asked about his fitness during an event organized by RCB, he said this. Kohli said, "Cricket is so much the focus in our country that we often ignore other sports.
To be honest, we are not even 15 percent of the fitness of Indian hockey players. If hockey players watch our training sessions, they will start laughing because their game is more demanding on fitness."This statement of Kohli is not surprising because the fitness of hockey players is actually better than that of cricketers. An easy measure to understand this is 'yo-yo test'. Yo-yo test has been adopted in the Indian cricket team for the last few years to measure fitness. In this, the best score of Indian cricketers has been around 20, which only a few players have been able to achieve.
Whereas Indian hockey players easily reach 22-23 points in this test.
