Sports Desk: Despite the crushing defeat by 5 wickets at the hands of Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the ‘Southern Derby’ match of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain Ruturaj Gaikwad has praised the spirit of his team.
After the match, Gaikwad said that it was a good game of cricket and despite the limited squad and absence of some key players, the team remained in the competition till the last stage (second-last over). He admitted to missing some chances in the match, but expressed pride in the team’s performance.
The captain thanked the fans for their continuous support and said that the team’s performance this year has been much better than last season.Batting first in this match, Chennai Super Kings scored 180/7, in which Sanju Samson’s fast start along with Dewald Brevis and Shivam Dubey had important contributions. However, Hyderabad bowlers under the captaincy of Pat Cummins forced Chennai to settle for a big score by taking wickets at regular intervals.
In reply, Sunrisers Hyderabad easily achieved this difficult target with one over remaining, thanks to Ishan Kishan’s stormy 70 runs and Heinrich Klaasen’s intelligent inning of 47 runs in 26 balls.
After the match, Klaasen praised his batting unit, describing the conditions in Chennai as challenging. With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad has qualified for the playoffs with Gujarat Titans.
