Cricketers are supposed to be role models on and off the field. Rajasthan Royals, skipper Riyan Paragthough, is acting nothing like a model player should. The 24-year-old, fresh from his side’s third successive loss in the IPL, was seen getting angry at a young fan.

A short video doing the rounds on social showed the player talking rudely to a fan who wanted an autograph.

The video showed Riyan being flanked by security personnel when a youngster approached. The fan in question was heard saying, “Riyan sir, please sir.” When the young one kept persisting, RR’s skipper could be seen moving the kid away, and the word ‘hatt’ (move) was also used. There were more voices in the background requesting the player to sign the autograph, which fell on deaf ears.

This isn’t the first time that the player has courted controversy this season. An Assam-based player was seen vaping in the dressing room in Mullanpur during the game against the Punjab Kings. This act wasn’t spared by the BCCI, which promptly fined the player and also gave him one demerit point.

Fans express outrage over behaviour

Seeing such an attitude from a young player, the fans weren’t thrilled at all.

One fan wrote, “zero love for fans..ye raise kisi ke idol banenge.” While another fan wrote, “He should have the same agression in match yesterday he himself as off spinner could have bowled than giving to Donavan Ferreira and in fielding he was scolding other players for midfielding and next himself misfielded.”

The likes of Rohit SharmaMS Dhoni, and other stars have always found time to engage with their die-hard fans.

Cricketers have always been hounded for autographs and selfies.

Fielding lapses from his side, hesaw Parag losing his cool on the field.

Speaking at the end of the game, the right-handed batter said, “What we showed today on the field wasn’t up to standards. We don’t deserve to make it to the playoffs if we keep playing like this. If we don’t qualify, we have to blame ourselves, not others.”
