Chennai Super Kings’ hopes of qualifying for the IPL 2026 Playoffs took a big hit on Monday, after it suffered a five-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Chepauk on Monday.
The defeat left CSK fifth in the standings, with just 12 points. Only one Playoff spot remains up for grabs, with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and SRH securing qualification.
CSK’s last fixture of the season will be against Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad on May 21 (Thursday).
To stand a chance for qualification, CSK will have to beat GT and hope a lot of other results go in its favour.
First up, CSK needs Punjab Kings to lose its last game, against Lucknow Super Giants. Then it would require Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders not to win both their final two games. If any of these three don’t happen, CSK will be knocked out.
Delhi Capitals is also in contention with 12 points and a game in hand (against KKR)
There is a chance for a two or three-way tie for the fourth spot between CSK, RR and DC. In this scenario, Net Run Rate would turn out to be the tiebreaker, with RR ahead at this moment.
