The history of T20 cricket is about 23 years old.
But, what happened on the IPL 2026 pitch on the evening of 16 May is the first case of its kind in the history of this format. The first official match of T20 was played on 13 June 2003. From that day till the next 8372 days, the case of 5 batsmen making fifty plus score in T20 came up 20 times in a match. But, if it has ever happened that 6 batsmen made a fifty plus score, it was seen only in the KKR vs GT match on 16 May 2026, 8372 days after the first T20 was played. This is the reason why this is a new world record set in T20.The match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Gujarat Titans was played on 16 May in IPL 2026.
In this match played at Eden Gardens, not one, two or five, but 6 batsmen scored fifty plus scores, which was seen for the first time in T20 cricket. All the 6 batsmen who scored fifty plus scores had definitely played in a match of IPL 2026. But they were from 4 different countries. Among them, 3 players were Indians, one from Australia, one from New Zealand and one from England. In the match played on May 16 in IPL 2026, for KKR, Indian batsman Angkrish Raghuvanshi scored unbeaten 82 runs on 44 balls, while Australia's Cameron Green scored unbeaten 52 runs on 28 balls.
Whereas New Zealand's Finn Allen scored 93 runs in just 35 balls. These three are the second trio of KKR, who have scored fifty plus in the same IPL match. Before this, the trio of Shubman Gill, Chris Lynn and Andre Russell had scored fifty plus in the match against MI in 2019.Sai Sudarshan and Shubman Gill scored fifty plus scores for Gujarat Titans. Sudarshan scored unbeaten 53 runs on 28 balls while Gill played an inning of 85 runs on 49 balls.
English batsman Jos Buttler played an inning of 57 runs in 35 balls. This is also the second trio of Gujarat Titans to score fifty plus in an IPL match. Earlier, Gill, Butler and Sundar had scored fifty plus in an IPL match.
