IPL 2026: KKR beat GT by 29 runs to stay alive in playoff race

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated the Gujarat Titans by 29 runs in Match 60 of the IPL 2026 to stay alive in the playoff race. On the other hand, GT are almost through to the next round despite their loss. Chasing 248 runs for their 9th win of the season, the Titans were restricted to 218 for 4 in 20 overs despite sensational hitting by Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler.

Gill faced just 49 balls to score 85 runs and smashed 7 sixes and 5 fours. The right-handed and his opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, added 42 runs to the total before the latter retired hurt, having been hit on his arm. Nishant Sindhu, who was promoted in the batting order, was unable to open his account. However, his departure was good for the Gujarat Titans as Jos Buttler and Gill kept their team in the game.

Buttler’s 35-ball 57 saw him smash 5 fours and 2 sixes. The two senior batters scripted a 128-run stand for the third wicket, but the dismissal of the skipper allowed Kolkata to put the opposition under pressure.

Sudharsan returned to the field, but even he was not able to match the asking run rate.

He was there in the middle till the end, scoring 53 runs in 28 deliveries, with the help of 6 fours and 3 sixes.

Sunil Narine, who was playing his 200th match for the KKR, claimed two wickets and conceded just 29 runs from his 4 overs.

Saurabh Dubey and Green picked up one scalp each.

With their 5th match of the season, KKR are in seventh place with 11 points, as one of their matches against the Punjab Kings was called off due to rain.

 On the other hand, GT are still in the second spot with 16 points from 13 games.

Earlier, Kolkata Knight Riders posted 247 for 2 in their allotted 20 overs, with main contributions coming from the Gujarat Titans fielders, who dropped four catches of the top batters.

Finn Allen went berserk after two dropped catches, scoring 93 runs off 35 balls, laced with 10 sixes and 4 fours. His runs came at a strike rate of 265.71. After the dismissal of Ajinkya Rahane, who managed 14 off 14, Kolkata’s batters went after the rival bowlers, hitting big shots in every over.

Angkrish Raghuvanshi and Allen added 105 runs for the second wicket.

The young Indian batter managed an unbeaten 82 runs in 44 deliveries, with the help of 7 maximums and 4 boundaries. After the departure of the New Zealand batter, Raghuvanshi joined hands with Australian all-rounder Cameron Green, who accumulated 52 not out in just 28 balls, including 4 sixes and 3 fours. Green and Angkrish stitched a 108-run stand for the third wicket.

For the Titans, Mohammed Siraj and Sai Kishore took 1 wicket each.
