Lucknow: Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir hopes that the Indian Premier League (IPL) will not become a shortcut to play for the Indian team. Let us tell you that after the arrival of IPL, there are many such players who have made a place in the Indian team by performing well in this league. In such a situation, all the players give priority to IPL and ignore domestic cricket. Gambhir also believes that IPL should not be the only criteria for selection for Team India at any cost.

Gautam has also admitted that after the arrival of IPL, domestic players have benefited and they have got a chance to showcase their skills. Apart from this, there is more competition here than international cricket. Actually, nowadays young players only want to play T-20 cricket and they are not interested in the longer format. Such cases are already being seen in world cricket, where players are retiring from major formats at an early age. In such a situation, while talking on the YouTube channel of former Indian veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, Gambhir has given a big statement.
He said, “The biggest concern is how many young players are there who want to play Test cricket for India. I hope that IPL will not become a shortcut to play for India. India's domestic players have benefited from the arrival of IPL. Now when I look at international level T20 teams, apart from 2-3 teams, there is not enough competition when it comes to playing for India.”
Gambhir further said that “There are many teams which cannot match the quality of India. That is why I think today IPL has become more competitive than International T-20 cricket. What has happened is that the quality of domestic players has changed, they concentrate only on playing IPL. The way those players work around themselves for T20 cricket, it seems that they want to concentrate only on playing IPL.”
