Left-arm seamer Akash Singh stole the spotlight with his amazing performance on Friday in the LSG vs CSK game at the Ekana Stadium. The 24-year-old bowled four overs and picked three wickets for mere 26 runs. Singh, playing his first game of the season, got the wickets of Ruturaj Gaikwad for 13, followed by Sanju Samson for 20 and Urvil Patel for six runs.
The seamer had pulled out a chit post to celebrate his wickets, which had irked South African legend Dale Steyn and former India batter Ambati Rayudu. This is not the first time this season that a player has pulled out a chit to celebrate a happy moment. Mumbai Indians player Raghu Sharma and CSK batter Urvil had done the same, too.
Akash had written on the Chit ‘Akki on fire- Akash knows how to take wickets in a T20 game’. Speaking on ESPN Cricinfo’s Time-out, the former India batter said, “That’s his manifestation. Won’t go down well with a lot, but it is funny and rubbish.” Dale Steyn too wasn’t amused with what he had seen as he tweeted his views and wrote, “Time to put the papers away. It ain’t trending anymore. Actually, to be honest, it never really was.”
Making his first appearance of the season, the seamer was overjoyed with the way he had managed to gobble up three huge wickets. A24-year-old during the mid-innings break was asked to explain his celebration, to which he said, “I was happy and also when you don’t get much games it is important to push yourself. I kept my focus and went about with my practice and did what was in my control and it worked.”
“There is story behind it (on chit celebration). It just to motivate myself during the matches. Things can work in your favour or go against you during matches. If this helps me stay focused and motivated then I will keep doing it, because performance matters at the end of the day,” said LSG’s hero with the ball.
Left-arm seamer from Rajasthan was part of the Under-19 World Cup squad in 2020 that lost to Bangladesh in the finals. Names like Yashasvi JaiswalRavi Bishnoi, Tilak Varma, Kartik Tyagi, Sushant Verma, and Dhruv Jurel have emerged from that side.
The Rajasthan-based pacer made his league debut in 2021 for the Royals, where he played just a single game and went wicketless. The following season, he moved to CSKwhere he managed to pick five wickets from six games. Since his move to Lucknow in 2025, the seamer has played just four games and picked seven wickets so far, and 3/26 picked on Friday is his best figures.
