In every season of IPL, it is seen that one or two teams lose a lot of matches in the beginning and are out of the race for the playoffs. At the same time, with the help of a strong start, some teams take a significant lead and almost secure their place. Then there come some teams which are stuck in the middle. Whenever such a situation arises, some drama happens where the eliminated team causes loss to the other teams. Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are seen doing the same thing in IPL 2026.
Since the beginning of the IPL 2026 season, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants The performance was very disappointing. Once both these teams fell to the last two places of the points table, they could not make a comeback. Coincidentally, on the same day and simultaneously, Lucknow and Mumbai were out of the playoff race. Since then, every match has become more important for those teams which are trying to reach the top-4.
Mumbai and Lucknow are now proving to be dangerous for such teams and both of them are trying to spoil the work of other teams. It has already started. Mumbai Indians defeated Punjab Kings in a thrilling match, due to which Punjab was stuck at 13 points. And the very next day, Lucknow Super Giants did the same thing with Chennai Super Kings. Lucknow gave its best performance this season and defeated Chennai by 7 wickets, due to which it missed out on reaching the top-4.
After these results, Punjab and Chennai are stuck. Only 2-2 matches are left for both the teams and this has become a problem for them. But the work of spoiling the celebrations of Lucknow and Mumbai is not over yet. Lucknow has to play its remaining 2 matches against Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. If the team wins both these matches then the difficulties for Rajasthan and Punjab will increase further.
Whereas Mumbai Indians have to play one match with Kolkata Knight Riders and one match with Rajasthan. The story of Kolkata is almost over but the journey of Rajasthan remains. In such a situation, if Rajasthan first loses to Lucknow and then Mumbai also defeats them in the last match, then it will be difficult for them to reach the playoffs. As far as Punjab is concerned, before facing Lucknow, it has to face Royal Challengers Bangalore, who is at the first place in the points table. If Punjab loses both the matches then its journey may also end.
