The journey of winning the title in IPL 2026 for Lucknow Super Giants ended prematurely. This team failed to reach the playoffs for the third consecutive season. Once again, Lucknow failed miserably under the captaincy of Rishabh Pant, the most expensive player in IPL history. But despite being out of the title race, it is making waves before going to Lucknow and in the same series it defeated Chennai Super Kings. However, in this victory, the team made a mistake due to which captain Rishabh Pant got punished.
Host in this match played on 15th May at Ekana Stadium, Lucknow LSG Crushed Chennai by 7 wickets in a one-sided fashion. Lucknow first restricted CSK to 187 runs, in which fast bowler Akash Singh played a big role. Akash took 3 wickets. After this, on the basis of Mitchell Marsh's explosive 90 runs, LSG achieved this target in the 17th over itself and registered the fourth win of the season.
The team definitely took a sigh of relief from this victory but despite this, captain Rishabh Pant had to suffer a loss. Actually, Lucknow, which was bowling first, took a long time to complete its 20 overs. It took almost 2 hours for Lucknow to complete 20 overs. Due to this the team was found guilty of slow overrate. However, this was the team's first mistake this season, so only captain Rishabh Pant was punished for this instead of the entire team. BCCI imposed a fine of Rs 12 lakh on Pant.
If Lucknow makes such a mistake again in its remaining 2 matches, then captain Pant will be fined Rs 24 lakh, while the match fees of other players of the team will also be deducted. Pant is not the first captain who has been fined for slow overrate. Before him, captains like Pat Cummins, Axar Patel, Ajinkya Rahane, Shreyas Iyer and Ruturaj Gaikwad have also faced fines due to this mistake.
