New Delhi: Indian cricket’s legendary batsman Virat Kohli has broken his silence on the questions being raised regarding his future and career. Kohli, who has said goodbye to T20 and Test cricket, is now focusing only on the ODI format. In an interview, Kohli made it clear that he will be seen on the cricket field only with his own conditions and self-respect.
‘If I have to prove my importance, I will give up my place’
When Virat Kohli was asked a question on the debate about playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup, Kohli’s answer was very clear. He said, “My views are clear. If I am made to feel that I have to prove my worth or my worth, then I will not be in that place (team). I am completely honest about my preparation and always give my 100 percent on the field.” Without taking names, Kohli targeted the discussions in which questions have been raised about the place of senior players in the team.
100% commitment on the field
Referring to his fitness and passion for sports, Kohli said that even today he plays with the same dedication as he used to play in the early days of his career. He said, “If the team wants me to run to the boundary for 40 overs, I will do it without any complaints. I field every ball as if it is the last ball of my career. Be it batting or running between the wickets, I am ready to do everything for the team.”
Vijay Hazare Trophy and Domestic Cricket
Kohli expressed his views amid reports of BCCI directing senior players to play domestic cricket. He told that he took part in Vijay Hazare Trophy only because he loves cricket. Kohli said, “I reiterated there too that I love cricket and that is why I was able to enjoy that tournament. I am not made for a place where I have to prove myself again and again.”
