Former South African legend AB de Villiers was a recent guest on Stuart Broad’s podcast, For the Love of Cricket. The conversation invariably turned towards young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. A15-year-old batter has left many legends of the game mesmerized with his batting in recent times.

The Proteas legend urged India’s young batting talent to also focus on playing ODI and Test cricket to broaden his horizons. In his chat with the former England pacer, ABD said, “I don’t know how long he will last, but he has incredible talent for sure. Would like to see him play other formats as well.”

42-year-old former batter also said, “If he (Sooryvanshi) is asked to focus only on T20 cricket, then he will have a long and successful career. If he gets someone advising him, then a lot of things can change.” Rajasthan Royals opener has done well in the ODI format as well; the batter scored a match-winning 175 in the Under-19 World Cup final for India vs England earlier this year.

Proteas legend wants to see batting prodigy play Test cricket

Despite his success in the white-ball format, the young batter from Bihar has played only a handful of games in the red-ball format. RCB’s former batting great has warned the youngster about the potential pitfalls of playing the five-day format and hopes the youngster will succeed.

“If he does play the ODI and Test formats as well, the player can discover a lot more to his cricketing ability. He has the talent to overcome whatever issues that could arise, but it won’t be easy for him. One hopes Vaibhav takes that route and looks at playing Test cricket as well for India,” opined South Africa’s former skipper to Stuart Broad.

Rajasthan Royals looking for playoff qualifications after short break

Former IPL winners will play their next game on Sunday after more than a week of rest. TheRoyals will next play the Delhi Capitals away from home as they look to win the game and keep their playoff hopes alive. Last time these two sides met in Jaipur, it was Delhi who had won the contest.

This will be followed by a home game against Lucknow and an away game against the Mumbai Indians to end their league phase. It is to be noted that RR have lost all three of their home matches so far this season, which were played at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
