Legendary opener Virender Sehwag reckons that KKR will not miss the services of in-form batter Phil Salt during the playoffs. KKR will clash with SRH on May 21, in Qualifier 1.

Alongside Sunil Narine, Salt’s explosiveness at the top of the order played a key role in Kolkata’s success. The English batter scored 435 runs in 13 games IPL 2024.

Their aggressive approaches from the start contributed to KKR’s victories in the 17th season. Salt was one of the English players who left their IPL franchises midway to play the upcoming T20I series against Pakistan.

In his interview with ESPNCricinfo, Sehwag said that KKR should maintain their impressive record even after Salt left the team.

“The value of your team won’t decrease due to the absence of one player. Just the other guy has got to play well. The absence of one of your in-form players will matter. Due to his explosiveness Phil Salt will be missed,” he stated.

“But it also possible that someone steps up and gives a better performance than Salt. I take it that he just needs to play one great match. I see it in positive direction. Also you have purchased the remaining players for such occasions,” he added.

It will be fascinating to watch who steps up for Salt for the SRH match, as KKR have a couple of choices such. Rahmanullah Gurbaz and KS Bharat are the other wicketkeeper-batters.
