Abhishek Sharma was named the Player of the Match for scoring 66 runs off 28 balls in Sunrisers Hyderabad’s last league match against Punjab Kings. The 23-,year-old hit six sixes and five fours as the Pat Cummins-led team won the contest by 4 wickets to finish second on the points table.
Former India players Virender Sehwag and Rohan Gavaskar hailed the southpaw for his outstanding batting in the Indian Premier League 2024. Sharma has scored over 450 runs at a strike rate of above 200. His partnership with Travis Head has completely dismantled the rivals in the 17th season, with SRH scripting several world records.
Sehwag was amazed to see Abhishek’s consistency. “He has been phenomenal this season. It is not easy to maintain a strike rate of above 200 throughout the season but Abhishek has done it. You can score runs at a brisk pace in two or three games but to do it in a full season is unbelievable,” Virender Sehwag said on Star Sports.
Rohan Gavaskar spoke about Sharma’s debut for the Indian team.
“I can guarantee that he will make his India debut in the five-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. The games will be played after the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 and you will see Abhishek playing in Zimbabwe,” he added.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad will take on Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1 on May 21 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
