Jitesh Sharma: The first match of the day in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) was played between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Punjab Kings on Sunday. This was the last match of the league stage for both the teams, which Hyderabad won by 4 wickets. Jitesh Sharma captained Punjab in this match in place of Sam Curran.

All the English players including Sam have returned home to play the home series against Pakistan. In such a situation, after the match against Hyderabad, the acting captain of Punjab Kings took a jibe at the England players.

Jitesh Sharma said during the post match presentation after the end of the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad that we played a good match even without the England players. Apart from this, he praised other players of the team and said that we fought well. Jitesh said,

“This match was a lot of fun. The boys fought really hard and we had a lot of fun. We played a good match without foreign (England) players. Planning will be of no use unless you get on the ground. We have to play according to the wicket and plan accordingly.”

Punjab Kings won the toss and decided to bat first. His decision was right and he posted a score of 214/5 runs on the scoreboard in 20 overs. Batted tremendously from Punjab's top order. Arthav Tayde scored 46 runs on 27 balls, Prabhsimran Singh scored 71 runs on 45 balls and Riley Rossow scored 49 runs on just 24 balls. At the same time, in the end, acting captain Jitesh Sharma also scored 32 runs in 15 balls with the help of 2 fours and as many sixes and took his team to a big total.

Hyderabad achieved the target easily

While chasing the target of 215 runs from Punjab, Hyderabad got its first blow on the very first ball of the innings. Travis Head returned to the pavilion without opening the account. But after this, Abhishek Sharma, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Reddy and Heinrich Klaasen batted stormily and led their team to a spectacular victory. Abhishek scored 66 (28), Rahul scored 33 (18), Nitish scored 37 (25) and Heinrich scored 42 (26).
