The 55th match of IPL 2026 was played between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which was the first match of this season in Dharamshala. In this match, Punjab opener Priyansh Arya made an explosive start by hitting a six on the very first ball. Punjab scored more than 200 runs while batting first. But amidst such explosive batting, something happened which created a lot of discussion and the reason for this was the 5 fast bowlers of Delhi Capitals, who bowled all the 20 overs for Delhi.
In this match played on May 11 at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala, Punjab Kings batted first. For this match, Delhi had also dropped star spinner Kuldeep Yadav from its playing-11, who was continuously struggling with poor form. But no other spinner was given a chance in his place in the team and thus captain Akshar Patel was left the only spinner. This decision was surprising for everyone and questions were being raised on it.
But then when the match started, the fans of Delhi Capitals could not even see captain Akshar bowling.
Akshar did not devote himself to bowling even a single over and surprised him by getting his 5 fast bowlers to bowl all the 20 overs. For Delhi, these 20 overs were bowled by Mitchell Starc, Lungi Ngidi, Aaqib Nabi, Mukesh Kumar and new player Madhav Tiwari. In this, Starc and Madhav took 2 wickets each, while Mukesh Kumar got 1 wicket. However, he could not stop Punjab from scoring 210 runs.Along with this, after 10 years in IPL, all 20 overs in an innings of a match were bowled by fast bowlers. The last time this happened was in 2016, when Sunrisers Hyderabad made their pacers bowl out the entire 20 overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore.
The surprising thing is that this has happened for the 13th time in the history of 19 seasons of IPL. That means, between 2008 and 2016, all 20 overs in 12 innings were bowled by fast bowlers.
