The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got the better of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by five wickets in a nervy finish in Match 53 of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday, May 10, as part of a double-header.
Having been put into bat, LSG put 203 runs on the board, thanks to the outstanding start provided to them by Josh Inglis. The Australian international went on to score 85 at a strike-rate of 257.57 to show what his side had been missing all season long. LSG did, however, lose their way a little in the middle overs, thanks to some excellent bowling by Jamie Overton and Anshul Kamboj.
In reply, CSK chased down the total with four balls to spare to register their third consecutive win in this season's IPL. Urvil Patel's name will always be associated with this game, after he created history to score IPL's joint-fastest half-century, off just 13 balls, to make sure his side were always in control on the run chase. He hit five consecutive sixes spanning two overs to end up with a score of 65 off just 23 balls, an innings comprising eight sixes.
As is the case with all IPL games this season, CSK vs LSGalso saw players from both camps registering milestones on a personal level.
This game was significant in this year's IPL as the tournament once again surpassed 1,000 sixes in total, with still around 20 matches to go. Here are the most important stats and milestones from Match 53:
