Mumbai Indians’ star opener and former captain Rohit Sharma has made a comeback in the team in an explosive manner. Rohit, who sat out of many matches in the middle of IPL 2026 due to injury, finally returned to the team and scored a stormy half-century as soon as he returned. Rohit scored a half-century in just 27 balls against Lucknow Super Giants at his home ground Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. In his innings, Rohit showed the same style for which he is known by hitting long sixes.
Rohit returned to the team with this match played on Monday 4th May.
before this Rohit Sharma Had played its last match 21 days ago on 12th April against Royal Challengers Bangalore. That match was also at Wankhede and then Rohit Sharma had to retire in front of his fans due to a hamstring injury while batting. Due to this injury, Rohit remained out for the next 5 consecutive matches and his deficiency was visible in Mumbai’s batting.But when Mumbai was almost on the verge of being out of the tournament, Rohit returned to the team and along with it came the storm of ‘Hitman’.
Rohit, who came in the opening, started hitting fours and sixes and targeted every bowler of Lucknow one by one. Within no time, Rohit completed his half-century in just 27 balls. This was only his second half-century in IPL 2026.In reaching here, Rohit had hit 5 sixes and 3 fours. His previous half-century came against Kolkata in the first match of the season. However, Rohit was out after coming very close to his century. He was dismissed by spinner Manimaran Siddharth in the 14th over. But by then, 84 runs had been scored from his bat in just 44 balls, which included 7 sixes and 6 fours.
Not only this, Rohit along with his opening partner Ryan Rickleton made a memorable partnership of 143 runs in just 10.5 overs. This was the third century opening partnership between these two in IPL. With this, Rohit and Rickleton made the record of highest century opening partnership for Mumbai. Earlier this record was in the name of Parthiv Patel and Lendl Simmons, who had made such a partnership twice.
