IPL 2026 has covered more than half its journey. But, the reality that has emerged after that is not matching with the image of this league. IPL is considered interesting and exciting. But, when this is so then where is the TRP? A severe decline has been recorded in the TRP of IPL 2026. However, the question is not just about television rating points but about the league's ability to reach audiences and attract advertisers. There has been tremendous failure in both this season.
First of all, let's talk about TRP i.e.
Television Rating Points, which is being told the data of TAM Sports and BARC India. According to that, a decline of 18.8 percent has been recorded in the TRP of IPL 2026. The TRP of IPL 2026 has fallen from 4.57 to 3.71.There has also been a decline of 26 percent in the average viewership of IPL 2026. At the same time, its total reach has decreased by 8.3 percent, which has come down from 12.40 crores to 11.36 crores.
IPL 2026 is seeing a clear drop in viewership numbers: TV ratings fall from 4.57 to 3.71 (down 18.8%), average viewership drops by 26%, and total reach declines from 123.96 million to 113.61 million (down 8.3%).

Not only the audience is disillusioned with IPL 2026, but the advertisers are also no longer showing the same interest in it.
There has been a decline of 31 percent in the advertisements of IPL 2026. Where earlier the number of advertisers was more than 65, their number has now come down to just 45 plus. Only 24 new brands have been associated with IPL 2026, while 44 brands are already created. Now the question is what is the reason for the decline in the number of TRP, viewers and advertisers? Many reasons for this are being cited on social media, which include the long format of this league, the matches being played on flat pitches and the ban on fantasy apps, etc.
Due to the long format, the tournament seems to be getting boring. Runs are scored due to matches being held on flat pitches but then the thrill is affected due to lack of equal competition between ball and bat. At the same time, due to the ban of fantasy app, people's inclination towards IPL has decreased. Apart from this, the change in the habit of viewers watching IPL in recent times is also a major reason for the fall of TRP. More viewers now watch matches against the teams they support.
It is clear that no single reason can be held responsible for the decline in popularity of IPL 2026.
