In the match played in Ahmedabad, Punjab Kings batted first but this time their top order collapsed badly. Gujarat's fast bowling attack, which had thrashed Royal Challengers Bangalore's batsmen in the last match, victimized Punjab this time. Mohammad Siraj He took 2 wickets in the first over itself, while half the team including captain Iyer was out for just 47 runs. From here Suryansh Shedge and Marcus Stoinis saved the honor of Punjab.
Suryansh hit 3 sixes and 2 fours in a single over and completed his first IPL half-century in just 23 balls.
Both made a partnership of 79 runs in 44 balls. Shedge scored 57 runs while Stoinis played an inning of 40 runs. In the end, Marco Yanson quickly scored 20 runs. On the basis of this the team somehow managed to reach 165 runs. But Sai Sudarshan and Jos Buttler (26) kept the team in a strong position by making a half-century partnership.
Wickets kept falling from one side but Sudarshan remained steadfast and kept taking the score forward. Sudarshan crossed the 50 mark for the fourth time this season and took the team beyond 120 runs. Here Punjab tried to make a comeback by taking some wickets including Sudarshan (57) but Washington Sundar remained firm on the other side. In the last over, Gujarat needed 11 runs to win, in which Arshad Khan hit a four, while Sundar (40 not out) gave the team victory by hitting a six on the 5th ball. Arshdeep Singh and Vijaykumar Vaishak took 2-2 wickets for Punjab.
