Rajasthan Royals’ 15-year-old batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi needs just six sixes to go past Abhishek Sharma’s record for most sixes by an Indian batter in a single edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The southpaw could break the six-hitting record in the upcoming match against the Delhi Capitals (DC) at Jaipur.
In nine IPL 2026 matches, he has scored 400 runs at an average of 44.44 and a strike rate of 238.09, including 2 fifties and a best score of 103. Sooryavanshi has smashed 34 fours and 37 sixes so far in the 19th season of the tournament.
In IPL 2024, Abhishek, who amassed 484 runs in 16 innings at an average of 32.26 and a strike rate of 207.21, also hit 42 sixes alongside 36 fours. Sooryavanshi is on the verge of scripting another milestone.
At 15, he has struck 99 sixes in just 27 innings, which is the highest number of maximums by any batter in T20 cricket before turning 20, according to ESPNCricinfo. One more six will take Vaibhav to a century of sixes, a record that will be tough to break by future generations.
Overall, Sooryavanshi has scored 652 runs in 16 IPL matches at an average of 40.75 and a strike rate of 224.82, with the help of two hundreds and three fifties. He is also one six away from becoming the fastest to hit 100 maximums in the T20 format.
