Royal Challengers Bangalore batsman Virat Kohli became the first player to complete 3000 IPL runs at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings in Bengaluru on Saturday. In this match, Chennai captain Ruturaj Gaikwad won the toss and decided to bowl.

Kohli achieved the feat when he reached 13 runs, also becoming the first IPL batsman to reach 3000 runs at the same venue in 17 editions. Rohit Sharma is the only other batsman to score more than 2000 runs at the same IPL venue (2295 runs at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai). Apart from this, Kohli became the second batsman in the history of IPL to hit 700 fours. Kohli achieved this feat by hitting a four on the second ball of the second over of the innings bowled by Shardul Thakur. The only other batsman to hit 700 or more fours in IPL history is Shikhar Dhawan, who has 768 fours to his name.

Chennai captain Ruturaj said after winning the toss, “We will bowl first. The wicket is looking good, it is cloudy and we will try to take advantage of maximum movement in the first 2-3 overs. It is looking a bit damp. But we will go with great intentions. It is important to win every game for us, we will take it ball by ball, we will try to progress in the middle order. “We have won some important games.
