Let us tell you that in the match played against Bengaluru, Dhoni had almost made Chennai qualify but he got out and due to this reason CSK could not qualify. Apart from this, this season Mahi was coming on the field to play some balls, while he was in good form and in such a situation, all the great players of the cricket world used to criticize Dhoni for this. In this match played against RCB, the 42-year-old played an inning of 25 runs in 13 balls with the help of 3 fours and a six but the team could not qualify. After the end of this match, Irfan Pathan gave a big statement during a conversation on Star Sports.
He said, “There is going to be a big auction next year and if you retain MS Dhoni, you will have to pay a huge amount for him. If you are looking for long term then my answer is no. If Dhoni is going to play only 3 or 4 balls then he should not be retained. However, if he is completely fit for the next season and is ready to play 3 to 4 overs then he should be retained only.”
Taking the conversation forward on Dhoni, Pathan said, “There was a time when MS Dhoni used to say that I want such players who play for the team and not for the fans, but today this is what has happened with Dhoni. Now, what would be going on in his mind in such a situation?”
