It has become a difficult task for Mumbai Indians to achieve even one win in IPL 2026. The first part of this season has been very bad for Mumbai Indians, captained by Hardik Pandya, and they have lost 5 out of 7 matches. In such a situation, the team not only has to put in all its efforts to win, but also has to make continuous changes. There have been changes in the playing-11 but now captain Pandya has made a big change. In the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Pandya won the toss and decided to bat first, which has been seen after 7 years.
In the match on April 29 at Wankhede Stadium Mumbai Captain Hardik Pandya won the toss. Then as soon as he announced his decision, it surprised everyone. Actually Pandya decided to bat first, which is rarely seen in IPL. But even in a ground like Wankhede, it is a rare sight that a captain wins the toss and bats first. But in the case of Mumbai, this happened after 7 years. Earlier in IPL 2019, last time Mumbai had won the toss and elected to bat first at Wankhede.
Now how right this decision of Hardik is will be known only after the match. Mumbai has faced defeat in 3 consecutive matches in its own home. The last defeat here was the most shocking and disappointing for Mumbai. The last match was against Chennai Super Kings, in which Chennai had scored 207 runs but after that Mumbai got bundled out for only 104 runs. This was MI’s most crushing defeat at home.
As far as the team is concerned, star batsman Rohit Sharma is still not fully fit. Pandya said that it may take at least 2 more matches for his comeback. Apart from Hardik, Quinton de Kock is also not a part of this match due to wrist injury. In such a situation, while Ryan Rickleton has returned, English all-rounder Will Jacques is playing his first match this season. Apart from these, Robin Minz has also been included in the playing-11.
