Virat Kohli expressed his excitement at playing alongside MS Dhoni, when Royal Challengers Bengaluru square up against Chennai Super Kings in an intense match up at M Chinnaswamy stadium. Given that they have shared the dressing room multiple times over the past 16 years, Kohli hinted that this may also be his final opportunity to play with Dhoni.
The last time Kohli and Dhoni shared the dressing room was the semi finals of the 2019 World Cup against New Zealand at the Old Trafford Stadium in Manchester. The RCB star has always had nothing but praise for Dhoni, and they have a strong bond.
“It is a great deal for the audience to watch Dhoni play in any Indian venue. Playing again with him—maybe for the final time, you never know, that’s a wonderful thing,” Kohli said
“It’s an amazing chance for fans to see us together, and we have some great memories and partnerships for India,” he continued.
In addition, Kohli discussed handling criticism, pointing out that Dhoni, who is now 42, had his own strategies for leading his side to victory.
“The same things used to be said about Mahi bhai, Why is he playing until the 20th or 50th over of the game?” However, how many games did he finish for India? “He’s most likely the only one who is aware of what he’s doing. And that’s where he ends the game. That’s muscle memory for me. He is aware that he will win the game if he plays to the very end of the over.” he continued.
Speaking of their highly anticipated clash, RCB and CSK are aiming to secure a spot in the playoffs. To get in the top 4, though, the Royal Challengers must defeat Chennai by 18 runs or chase the target with 11 balls remaining.
For CSK a victory would be sufficient to make it to the playoffs.
