Cameron Steel Announced Retirement: A shocking news has come out from England cricket. A 30 year old player has suddenly announced his retirement. This player had to face an injury in the year 2024. After which he had to undergo surgery twice, but this player's comeback was nothing special and now on medical advice, he has decided to leave professional cricket, which has surprised everyone.
Surrey County all-rounder Cameron Steele has had to retire from professional cricket due to a serious ankle injury.
Let us tell you, Steele suffered a left ankle injury in 2024. After this, he underwent brostom repair surgery in February 2025. Then he returned to the field in May 2025, but due to this injury he had to face problems. Due to which a second surgery took place in September 2025 and after that a six-month long rehabilitation process took place. In the end, on medical advice, he had to decide to leave professional cricket.Announcing his retirement, Steele said, 'Playing professional cricket, especially for Surrey, was the best time of my life.
The last 18 months have been very disappointing and I am very sad to have to retire due to medical reasons. Thank you to the medical staff for supporting me through every difficult moment and bearing every setback, and also thanks to the coaches, whose shoulders and back have endured years of throwdowns.Cameron Steele played a total of 132 professional matches, including 66 first-class matches. He started from the academy of Middlesex. After this, after completing his studies from Durham University, he joined the Durham team, where he created history by scoring a double century at a young age.
Then in 2021, he joined Surrey County and here he made his real mark. Steel proved useful for the team as a batsman and leg spinner. He played a key role in winning three County Championship titles (2022, 2023 and 2024) for Surrey.He scored 2733 runs in 66 first-class matches and also took 60 wickets. At the same time, he has 666 runs and 45 wickets in his name in List A. Apart from this, he also played 24 T20 matches, in which he managed to take 165 runs and 12 wickets.
