Mumbai Indians (MI) have suffered a big setback in IPL 2026. New Zealand spin all-rounder Mitchell Santner has been ruled out of the entire season due to a left shoulder injury. Santner was injured while trying to take a catch near the boundary in the recent home match against Chennai Super Kings. Now the team has included the experienced South African spinner in its team as his replacement. This player has experience of playing only 2 matches in IPL.
Mitchell Santner was playing an important role in the spin bowling of Mumbai Indians. During the match against CSK at the Wankhede Stadium, he lost balance while trying to take a catch and fell and badly injured his shoulder. Due to this injury he could not play further in the match. Initially there was suspicion of a shoulder injury, but replays confirmed a head collision. Due to which Mumbai Indians had played Shardul Thakur as a concussion substitute.
At the same time, now the team has signed experienced South African left-arm spinner Keshav Maharaj as his replacement for Rs 75 lakh. Keshav Maharaj has played his first two matches in the IPL, which were for Rajasthan Royals in 2024. Maharaj is known for his classical left-arm orthodox bowling. He bowls economically in the middle overs. This is a big opportunity for them also. No one had bought him in the auction.
