Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) endured their fifth consecutive defeat in IPL 2026 after losing a close Super Over contest against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday night. This marked their eighth successive loss at their home venue in the IPL.

LSG now share the record for the second-most successive defeats at a home venue alongside Deccan Chargers. Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils) hold the top spot with nine consecutive losses at the Arun Jaitley Stadium from 2013 to 2015.

The latest defeat is the longest losing streak for the Lucknow franchise in IPL history.

They currently sit at the bottom of the points table, having won only two out of their eight matches.

Rishabh Pant’s side came close to securing their third win of the season but faltered in the Super Over. Nicholas Pooran, who has been out of form, partnered with Aiden Markram for the batting in the tiebreaker. Sunil Narine dismissed Pooran on the first ball. Pant took a single on the second delivery, but Markram was dismissed attempting a boundary on the next ball, setting a two-run target. KKR achieved this target on the first ball of Prince Yadav’s over, aided by a boundary from Player of the Match Rinku Singh.

LSG have now suffered 18 defeats in 30 IPL matches when chasing a target, with a 40% win rate batting second. In contrast, they have a better 57.14% win rate when batting first, having won 20 of 36 matches in that scenario.

Earlier in the match, Rinku Singh played a key role in KKR setting a target of 155 while batting first in Lucknow. Mohsin Khan’s five-wicket haul restricted LSG in the middle overs. Rinku scored an unbeaten 83 off 51 balls, including seven fours and five sixes, helping KKR surpass the 150-run mark.

Rinku also excelled in the field, taking four catches. He became the fourth player to take four catches and score 50 or more runs in a match. Jacques Kallis first achieved this for KKR against Deccan Chargers in IPL 2011. Riyan Parag (RR) did so against RCB in IPL 2022, while Daryl Mitchell took five catches and scored 52 against SRH in Chennai in the 2024 season.

This was the second occasion Rinku Singh took four catches for KKR. Only three times has a KKR player taken four catches in an IPL match, and Rinku has accomplished this feat twice.
