Angkrish Raghuvanshi was given out by the third umpire for obstructing the field in the Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) clash against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the BRSABV Ekana Cricket Stadium on Sunday, April 26.
The incident took place on the last ball of the fifth over. Raghuvanshi clipped a ball from Prince Yadav towards Mohammed Shami at mid-on. The youngster took a few paces towards the non-striker's end, looking for a quick single. However, Cameron Green sent him back. Raghuvanshi did take a look at the fielder, who picked up the ball cleanly and threw it towards the stumps.
The ball hit Raghuvanshi, who had put in a desperate dive at the batting end. Rishabh Pant went up in appeal, and so did a few of the LSG fielders. However, none of them was too vociferous, and it seemed that the umpires would ask them to move on. A few moments later, on-field umpires Keyur Kelkar and Abhijeet Bengeri asked the third umpire, Rohan Pandit, to have a check.
Pandit deemed that Raghuvanshi had a look at where the ball was coming from and changed the angle of his run. He ruled the batter out. Raghuvanshi was seen remonstrating with the umpires shortly after the incident.
The commentators were also in disagreement with the third umpire, mentioning that the batter had to change his angle because it is impossible to turn 180 degrees while running. KKR head coach Abhishek Nayar was seen talking to the fourth umpire after this dismissal.Raghuvanshi became the first batter in IPL history to be dismissed obstructing the field. It was a huge moment in the match as KKR had already lost their two openers before that dismissal.
