The level of batting has been continuously improving in every season of IPL. Bowlers also keep trying to improve themselves by making some changes. This is being seen in the IPL 2026 season also. But amidst all this, the level of fielding has suddenly fallen badly this season. Cases of missed catches have increased continuously. Especially in only 3 matches, more than 20 catches were missed. The same scenario that was seen in the matches of Punjab-Delhi and Rajasthan-Hyderabad was also seen in the match between Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings.

The first match of the day was played between Chennai and Gujarat on Sunday 26 April at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. In this match, Chennai was batting first but Gujarat's fast bowlers made its condition weak. The team had lost 4 wickets for only 37 runs and it took 12 overs to reach 50 runs. It seemed that the team would hardly be able to cross 100 runs but it happened and a major reason for this was Gujarat's fielding.

In this match, as good as Gujarat's bowling was, equally poor fielding was seen. The team dropped 5 catches in the entire 20 overs, out of which 4 were easy.

Out of these, only 3 catches were dropped by Shivam Dubey. Left-handed batsman Dubey got his first lease of life on 6 runs when Jos Buttler dropped his catch. Then Sai Sudarshan made the same mistake on the score of 11 runs.

Got the chance for the third time, when Shivam was on 22 runs and Mohammad Siraj gave him life. However, after missing the third catch, Arshad Khan clean bowled him on the very next ball. But in this time he had made an important partnership of 53 runs with Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Not only Dubey, after this Karthik Sharma and Jamie Overton also got life.

In the 18th over, Karthik Sharma played a high shot at deep square leg, which Manav Suthar and Rashid Khan ran to catch. But as soon as the ball came close, no one tried to catch it and the ball went for 4 runs.

Then in the next over, Jamie Overton hit a shot at mid-off. Gujarat captain Shubman Gill tried to take the catch by diving but missed. The mistake Gill made was that he tried to take the catch with only one hand. If both had tried with hands, it could have been a catch. This ball went for a four and after this Overton hit six, four and four on consecutive balls.

Earlier, in the two matches played on Saturday 25th April, all limits of catch drops were crossed. The trend that started in the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, continued in the match between Rajasthan Royals and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Overall, 16 catches were missed in 4 innings. All this had an impact on the match. While Delhi and Rajasthan took advantage of these and scored big scores in their respective innings, Punjab and Sunrisers took advantage of the catch drops and chased big scores and won.
