South African fast bowler Lungi Ngidi has taken to social media to announce that he is doing well following the horrific injury he picked up during the Delhi Capitals’ home game against the Punjab Kings on Saturday, April 25.
Whilst trying to jog back and take Priyansh Arya’s catch, Ngidi lost his balance and fell on the turf, taking a heavy hit to his head. Play was soon halted whilst the medical team examined the seriousness of the injury, with the 30-year-old later stretchered off in an ambulance to a nearby hospital.
Later that day, the official Indian Premier League (IPL) social media account stated that the bowler complained of a headache and neck pain but was stable in the hospital, with no cause for alarm.
Following a long wait to learn about his well-being, the DC bowler took to Instagram story to reveal he is doing fine and on the road to recovery. He also thanked the fans for sending them messages to check on his health.
“Thank you for the messages.
All good,” Ngidi said on his Instagram story.
It is worth mentioning that Ngidi was taken to the BLK-Max Super Speciality Hospital after his freak injury, but was later discharged in the evening after the game against PBKS.
Ngidi was a huge miss for DC after PBKS went on to chase 265 in the second inning with seven balls to spare, in what was a record run chase in the history of the IPL. The South African international did not bowl a single over before suffering from his neck injury.
Ngidi, however, has been one of DC’s best bowlers this season.
He is currently the joint-highest wicket-taker for the 2020 finalists, along with the spin duo of captain Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav, with seven wickets. The fast bowler started the 2026 season with a bang, taking three wickets against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) away from home.DC are currently sixth in the points standings, having accumulated six points from their first seven matches of the 2026 season.
