Bengaluru: Suyash Sharma grabbed headlines with a fiery ‘bow down’ celebration after dismissing Shubman Gill during an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Gujarat Titans at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
The young leg-spinner’s animated send-off, mimicking Gill’s trademark celebration style, quickly went viral and became one of the most talked-about moments of the match.
The incident occurred on the fourth ball of the 13th over of Gujarat Titans’ innings. Suyash bowled a cleverly disguised short googly that tempted Gill into a big shot.
Gill mistimed the delivery, and the ball was safely pouched by Devdutt Padikkal at long-on. The Gujarat skipper departed after scoring 32 off 24 balls.
What followed was pure theatre. Suyash celebrated with a ‘bow down’ gesture — a move often associated with Gill when he reaches milestones — adding a layer of spice to the contest.
While the celebration grabbed attention, the match itself turned into a batting spectacle led by Virat Kohli.
Chasing 206, Kohli smashed a scintillating 81, capitalising on an early dropped catch to anchor the innings. He found strong support from Padikkal, who blazed his way to 55 in a crucial 115-run partnership for the second wicket.
Despite a brief middle-order wobble, contributions from Tim David and Krunal Pandya ensured that Bengaluru chased down the target with five wickets in hand, delighting the home crowd.
Earlier, Gujarat Titans posted a competitive 205 for 3, largely thanks to a brilliant century by Sai Sudharsan.
Sudharsan dominated the innings with fluent strokeplay, registering his third IPL hundred. He anchored a strong opening stand with Gill, who played a relatively subdued role early on.
However, despite setting a solid platform for a total in excess of 220, Gujarat lost momentum towards the end due to disciplined bowling from Bengaluru’s attack.
Experienced pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Josh Hazlewood, along with Rasikh Salam, executed their plans effectively in the death overs.
Their tight lines and variations restricted Gujarat’s scoring, ensuring the total remained within reach for Bengaluru’s strong batting lineup.
Kohli’s match-winning knock also saw him surge to the top of the run charts, overtaking Abhishek Sharma to claim the Orange Cap with 328 runs in the tournament so far.
His innings was marked by exquisite timing and placement, reinforcing his status as one of the most consistent performers in IPL history.
Suyash’s ‘bow down’ celebration has sparked widespread debate among fans and experts. While some viewed it as playful banter and part of the game’s competitive spirit, others felt it added unnecessary aggression.
Such moments, however, underline the passion and intensity of the IPL, where rivalries and emotions often take centre stage alongside high-quality cricket.
Suyash Sharma’s cheeky celebration may have stolen the limelight, but it was Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s clinical run chase that sealed a memorable victory. With standout performances from Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, RCB showcased their batting depth and composure under pressure. Meanwhile, the viral moment involving Suyash and Shubman Gill added yet another dramatic chapter to IPL 2026, highlighting the league’s unique blend of skill, entertainment and rivalry.
